The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is providing a FREE Hunter’s Education course that is approved for all states on Saturday, August 27th from 8 AM to 6 PM at the Yell County Wildlife Federation Building (ST Hwy 22, West of Dardanelle). Staff members from the Attorney General’s office are providing information about scams, identity theft, fraud, and how to protect yourself against such grievances. The Attorney General Mobile Office will also provide assistance to constituents who face consumer-related problems in filing consumer complaints. If you would like more information on how to protect your identity and avoid scams, come to the Dardanelle City Hall on Tuesday, August 30th, from 10:30 AM to noon.
Tuesday, August 30, 2016 | Prescription Drug Take Back
In order to help in the great Arkansas clean-up, we must also clean up our streets! Local authorities, partnered with Sheriff Bill Gilkey, will be collecting potentially harmful substances – including prescription, over-the-counter, and pet medicines, as well as vitamins, medicated ointments, inhalers, and medicine samples to keep our homes and our community healthier. To drop off your medications, come to the Dardanelle City Hall on Tuesday, August 30th, from 10:30 AM to noon.

For all those servicemen and woman who come to our need when hardships hit here at home, the Knights of Columbus are inviting our community to join them in celebrating, thanking, and honoring first responders who serve Pope and Yell County. On Friday afternoon, September 9th, meet local first responders and the locals at the Depot Park in Downtown Russellville. Held from 11 AM – 1:30 PM, there will be ample time for you to get away for a quick lunch break and grab some BBQ, free of course. As a part of this celebration of compassion and life, there will be free food, fun, and entertainment, as well as a blood drive that benefits a local blood bank. We’ll see you Downtown on the 9th!

It’s the perfect time of year for the kiddos to spend a weekend outdoors! Let them cultivate your love for nature and sign them up for Lake Dardanelle State Park’s OAK Camp. Showcase your inner royalty in the 2015 Pope Co. Fair Pageant! Held at the Atkins High School Auditorium, Little Miss and Mister pageants will begin at 10 AM and the Miss, Teen, and Mrs. Pageants will begin at 6 PM. Teen and Miss contestants must be single ladies between 13 and 21, with relevant age subdivisions, and be a resident or student in Pope County. A new addition to this year’s pageants, the Mrs. Pope County Fair Queen, is open to married women, ages 18 and over, who are residents of Pope County. The entry fee for Miss, Teen, and Mrs. Pageants are $50 with an optional $10 fee for a photogenic contest. The Little Miss Fair Queen and Mister Fair King pageants are open to all residents in Arkansas. Age divisions for girls are 0 months-12 years, with subdivisions, and boys ages 0-3 years. The entry fee for Little Miss and Mister is $35 with an optional $10 fee for a photogenic contest. Register to showcase your beauty today! CSI Insurance has developed a First Tee Program that fosters core values and life skills through golf to our area youth. To promote this program, the Russellville Country Club is hosting the CSI First Tee Program Golf Tournament Benefit on September 10th. This golf tourney is a 4-man scramble and will have a shotgun start at 8:30 that morning. Registration begins at 7:30 AM the same day. All proceeds of this tournament go back to instilling the local youth with the First Tee Program’s “Nine Core Values and Essential Life Skills.” What better way to spend a Saturday than playing some golf? 10-15-2016 - Arkansas Zombie Challenge
Friends of CASA present the 4th Annual Arkansas Zombie Challenge on October 15th in Hector, Arkansas. The 5k obstacle course has runners dodge zombies while running through obstacles to reach the finish line. Each runner will be fitted with a flag belt and receive 3 flags. If the runner makes it to the finish line with at least one flag then they aren’t “infected.” Early entry is $25 for zombies and $45 for runners. All proceeds benefit CASA of the 5th Judicial District, which advocates for children in foster care to have a voice in the courtroom in Pope, Johnson and Franklin counties.
